Surface Enhancement TechnologyP2i Limited has announced that it recently closed £2.625m ($ 4.6m) in secondary investment from its original investor, Porton Capital.

Porton Down, UK – Commenting on the investment, P2is CEO, Quentin Compton-Bishop, commented, “This is a significant boost for P2i and will enable us to move to new premises near Oxford and accelerate the rolling out of our commercial plasma processes and equipment. It builds on the progress made over the past 18 months since the company’s launch. There has been huge interest in our ability to apply nano-scale surface enhancements to a wide range of products in the biomedical, industrial and textile industries. We had licensees with the first P2i-enhanced products in the market within 6 months of start-up and are collaborating with a number of major global companies to launch new products in the next 6 months.”

P2i is a spin-out from the British Ministry of Defence’s research establishment, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) at Porton Down. Originating from sponsored research at the University of Durham, P2i’s cold plasma surface modification technology can invisibly modify the surfaces of products to give them new properties such as super oil and water repellency which is three times more effective than the industry benchmark Teflon® (PTFE). Applications range from highly breathable, water-repellent footwear and clothing and high performance medical disposables, such as filters and pipette tips.

Harvey Boulter, Managing Director of Porton Capital, commented, “This is an important milestone for P2i. We saw early on the massive potential of the company’s technology in almost all industry sectors and are delighted to be able to substantially increase our initial investment made last year.”
